After a great deal of discussion with the committee, it’s with regret I have to tell you we have decided to postpone the 2022 Bo’ness Revival at Kinneil House. This very tough decision has been made in light of steeply rising costs for all of the services required to turn the estate into a live motorsport venue for the Revival. These increases simply make it unsustainable to continue with the event this year.
The committee members and myself will be at the April Breakfast Meeting on Sunday 3 April at the Park Bistro, Linlithgow to answer your questions and further explain the situation. We look forward to seeing you there.
I’d also like to thank all of you for you ongoing support through the past two years that have been so difficult for many of you. Anyone who would like to defer their BHCR membership from 2022 to 2023 is welcome to do so and please contact me on: alisdair@bonessrevival.co.uk. I’d also like to thank our sponsor Cask 88 for their ongoing support for the Bo’ness Revival.
While it is very disappointing to make this decision about the Revival at Bo’ness, we are working on other events. This includes the Doune Historic hillclimb on 21-22 May where BHCR will be supporting the event. This is a great opportunity to compete on one of the most challenging and highly regarded hillclimbs in the UK in a classics-only event. If you are not ready to compete, there is also the showfield being organised by BHCR where you can park your classic car. Again, please contact me if you’re interested in this.
We are also looking to run an event at Forrestburn later in the year in conjunction with our friends at the Monklands Sporting Car Club. When we have firmer details of this, we will let you know and invite entries.
Thank you again for all of your support and enthusiasm for the Bo’ness Revival, and I look forward to seeing you at the Breakfast Meeting on 3 April.
The 2022 Bo’ness Revival will take place on 3-4 September. This has been confirmed by the Falkirk Community Trust, who have been very helpful in arranging the date.
This is the now-familiar first weekend slot in September and we’re looking forward to welcoming back hillclimbing to the Kinneil Estate in 2022 after an enforced absence since 2019 due to Covid restrictions.
We’ll keep members up to date on news of the event and Classic car show, and we’re looking forward to 2022 being a great event.
Thanks also to our event sponsor Cask 88 for all their support for the 2022 Bo’ness Revival, and we can’t wait to taste the next event’s limited-edition Bo’ness whisky!
Thank you to those who have renewed their membership for 2021, and especially to those who made a donation in addition to the annual subscription. Your support is greatly appreciated and really helps to make the club more secure in these difficult times.
To keep things as paperless as possible we have migrated our membership system [which was a very complex excel file ] to an online systems called members Mojo. All existing memberships have been imported, all going well to renew your membership go to https://www.bonessrevival.co.uk/membership/ and if you are an existing member click the the Sign in button. Enter your email address and the system will send you a link to login, so no pesky passwords to remember. Once logged in you can click the renew button and away you go. if you are a new or lapsed member then simply complete the form.
Memberships cards are automatically created and can be download from the systems by clicking the View cards button these can either be saved as a PDF on your phone or printed that is up to you.
Please also check the details on file we have and correct any mistakes or changes since you last applied. This can be done at any time by logging into the system if you change address for example.
If you already use membersmojo for other clubs then do not worry the system knows this already and keeps things separate. if you have any issues please email alex@bonessrevival.co.uk
Membership renews help the club by funding the hill climb later in the year so the more we get the better we are placed for the next season.
The 2021 Bo’ness Revival sponsored by Cask 88 crosses the finish line! A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the Revival happen this year, sometimes even when it felt like it was against the odds.
A massive thanks to all of the drivers who entered, without whom there is no Revival, and all of those who support the entrants to let them compete.
As always, we all owe every marshal at Bo’ness and every other motorsport event a huge cheer and thank you because they are the absolute backbone of motorsport. Without them, none of us can race or spectate at the events we love. They’re all too modest to say it or think it, but they are our orange-clad superheroes!
A big thank you to all of the officials, MUK staff, safety and recovery crews who help us run Bo’ness Revival in a safe, efficient way.
Thanks also to all you who came along and spectated – when we started planning the 2021 event we didn’t even know if we’d be allowed there, never mind spectators, so thanks for sticking with us!
We also owe a great, big thank to you everyone at Monklands Sporting Car Club for hosting the 2021 Revival and making us so welcome. Forrestburn is a brilliant track and all of the competitors thoroughly enjoyed themselves. If you’ve not driven there, get yourself entered for an event in 2022!
Lastly, an enormous thank you to everyone at our generous and ever jovial sponsor Cask 88. You are an absolute dream to work with and have been so kind and helpful in the run-up to the Revival and over the weekend. If anyone has still to order their bottle of the Cask 88 Revival whisky, get a move on as they are shifting fast and are sure to be a collector’s item with Colin McLachlan’s superb Moose Austin Seven special on the label!
Thank you one and all. Now, planning for the 2022 Bo’ness Revival begins – see you there!
Well we got here in the end, and i am delighted to release the Final Reg’s and entry list for the Cask 88, 14Th Bo’ness Revival “on tour @ MSCC”

Please be aware that cars are left at your own risk even if security is on site.
Gates will be be opening from 7.30am on Saturday and racing will start at 10am so you have plenty of time to get setup and have a bacon roll.
Due to the number of entries and as long as there are no serious incidents and good weather we will hope to give you at least 5 runs [2 practice and 3 timed] but possibly one additional timed run on top of this.
We’re delighted and very proud to reveal the Bo’ness Hillclimb 14th Revival Commemorative Bottling from our sponsor Cask 88. The limited edition bottle is a 14-year old Croftengea Single Cask malt and only 100 bottles will be available.
Back in 2007, as the plans for the first Bo’ness Revival were getting underway, this spirit was distilled, and filled into a refill Bourbon Hogshead (#254), at Loch Lomond distillery in Alexandria. After 14 years of maturation, this peated variant of the distillery’s usual produce has developed notes of sweet buttered popcorn, the scent of an open fire, and herbaceous notes, which come together to form a well-rounded Highland dram.
If you take a look at the label, you’ll get strong notes of Castrol R and Austin 7 from the unique Moose Special, driven by Colin McLachlan at Bo’ness. Each bottle costs £97 and is an instant collector’s item, though we can also recommend tasting the contents.
Cask 88 is the sponsor of the Bo’ness Revival and is a whisky cask specialist that offers buyers the opportunity to select, purchase, label and package their own exclusive whisky drawn from the finest Scottish whisky casks. The company founders have been trading collectible single malt since 1987 and opened the Asia office in 2013; now Cask 88 offers a wide selection of old and rare casks from world-renowned distilleries, and provides end-to-end care that includes cask procurement and storage, bespoke packaging design and bottling services. An extensive inventory and expansive global network provide an unparalleled selection of fine whiskies, which attracts a wide clientele from London, Hong Kong and Beijing to New York.
Entries to the 2021 Bo’ness Revival are now open and there are classes to suit all types of classic car.
The 2021 event will be held at Forrestburn Speed Hill Climb due to Covid restrictions making it not viable to hold the Revival at its traditional home on the Kinneil Estate. Our thanks go to the Monklands Sporting Car Club for the help with organising this year’s event.
However, the spirit of Bo’ness will be just as strong as ever with a wide range of classes and cars competing on the 1030-metre course with a maximum gradient of 1-in-4.
Demand is strong for entries to the 2021 Bo’ness Revival, so entry early to avoid disappointment. Entries are via the Bo’ness Revival website
The 2021 Bo’ness Revival will take place at the Forrestburn Speed Hill Climb near Harthill. It will be held on a date yet to be confirmed but we hope to keep the original date of 4th-5th September 2021
The change in venue away from Bo’ness’ historic home at the Kinneil Estate is due to the ongoing difficulties presented by Covid-19 restrictions. With the cost of holding an event at Kinneil too onerous for the BHCR, the committee decided to look at alternative venues rather than cancel again in 2021.
After friendly discussions with the Monklands Sporting Car Club, it has been agreed to run a classics-only event at Forrestburn under the Bo’ness banner. The hillclimb will give competitors the chance to enjoy their cars in a competitive environment at one of Scotland’s best hillclimb tracks.
Due to ongoing concerns about Covid-19, the event will be open only to entrants, with no spectators to ensure the safety of all attending.
We are determined as long as restrictions allow to make sure this event goes ahead. If you have not raced at Monklands before you are in for a real treat.
Further information will be confirmed as soon as we have it and entries will open as soon as possible.
The track layout was designed by the original MSCC committee members (Marion and Brian Hopkins, Stephen Kay, Gordon McRobbie and Willie Miller) with assistance from Derek Ongaro of the RAC MSA, former Scottish Hill Climb Champion Kenny Allan with advice from many others on safety and marshal requirements.
The track is 1030 metres in length rising from 221m to 246m AOD with a maximum gradient of 1:4.
The track has been used as a film set on a number of occasions, including the 39 Steps (2008) in which Forrestburn supplemented other Scottish locations.

The primary aim of the Bo’ness Revival is to preserve the heritage of Scotland’s first purpose built Motor Sport venue, with Bo’ness holding a major, if unsung, role of Scotland’s and the UK’ s Motor Sport history. Most of the great names in Motor Sport have competed at Bo’ness, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Stirling Moss to name but a few. As the cost of staging the Bo’ness Revival Hillclimb increases year on year the organising team are continually seeking ways to keep the Revival alive and viable. One of the ways we have helped achieve this aim is by promoting the Bo’ness Revival Classic side of the event, which has grown into one of the major events on the Scottish Classic Car scene. We do not make claims about the Revival as a whole being the most prestigious or biggest event in Scotland, however, we are Scotland’s only established combined genuine historic motor sport and classic car event which is all about giving enthusiastic owners the opportunity to use their cars, either in the Hillclimb or Classic, and be part of a friendly event with like-minded fellow enthusiasts.
Currently there are circa 250-members of the BHCR from all corners of the UK and we would like to expand membership and activities for those members who own Classic Cars. In addition to the benefits of being a member of the BHCR members of the Bo’ness Revival Classic Club receive,
Free entry to the Bo’ness Revival Classic Club stand in the Showfield
Members monthly meetup Blether meetings, providing there is sufficient interest and no Covid restrictions.
Membership of an MSA and SACU approved club with membership card
A Monthly Newsletter available only to members and not available on the BHCR website (distributed by email)
A reduction of £5 from the entry fee for each of the hill climbs (£10)
The opportunity to assist the club up to and during the 2021 Revival Meeting
Your Membership Fee helps to maintain, support and improve the oldest Scottish Motor Racing venue
Opinions vary as to the definition of a Classic Car, our definition is interpreted as generally any car produced over 20-years ago, together with modern sports cars.
After a lot of discussion and soul-searching, it’s with heavy hearts that we have decided to cancel the 2020 Bo’ness Revival and Classic. In light of Motorsport UK cancelling all events until at least the end of June, we are unable to plan an event that takes many months to organise to make it as successful and safe as possible for competitors, entrants, marshals, organisers and visitors. We hope you understand and everyone involved with the Revival is humbled by the support you have shown throughout this situation that none of us could have predicted.
We’d also like to thank all of our sponsors who have been unstinting in their support for the Revival and without whom we simply couldn’t run the event.
We will be refunding entry fees to those who have already paid for the Classic. Any Hillclimb competitor can also be refunded, defer their entry to 2021 or gift their entry fee to the club, we wil lbe in touch about this in the near future,
However, this is far from the end of the Revival and Bo’ness Hill Climb Revival Club. We are already looking to the 2021 event and how we can make it the best Revival yet. Much of the planning that has gone into this year’s event will be carried over and we have plenty of other ideas too.
We will continue with our regular Facebook posts celebrating the great drivers, cars and people of past Revivals. Kenny Baird has plenty more of his history of Bo’ness Hillclimb to come and we also have our virtual Breakfast Club meeting this Sunday from 10am right here on the Bo’ness Revival Facebook page. Make sure you drop by with a cuppa, bacon roll and ready to chat about all things classic and hillclimb.
There are also other events we have planned for later in the year that we’ll keep you up to speed on as and when the unfolding situation allows.
In the meantime, all of us at the Bo’ness Revival ask that you stay safe, keep well and we send our best wishes. We look forward to seeing you all again in good health and cheer very soon.
Due to the current advised recommendations, we have cancelled the physical meet up this month [29th march] . we are investigating a virtual chat on facebook. More to follow
Many of you will have read that Motorsport UK has suspended all permits and Certificates of Exemption until at least 30 April 2020. The Bo’ness Revival Committee wholeheartedly agrees with this move to safeguard officials, marshals, competitors and fans, and to relieve the impact on our emergency services.
At present, we are continuing to work to make the 2020 Revival the best Bo’ness yet and we appreciate all of your ongoing support and that of our sponsors. If the situation changes, we will update immediately.
The exciting news for competitors joining us for this year’s edition of the Bo’ness Revival Hill Climb to be held over 5th – 6th September 2020, is that applications for class entries are now open.

For the first time, two motorsport venues that have their events on the same weekend are working together with a joint ticket offer which means fans can enjoy both events for the price of one adult admission ticket.
Knockhill SMRC race day and Bo’Ness Revival working together with an unique two events for the price of one offer
The Bo’Ness Revival, located just 10 miles west of the Queensferry Crossing, is Scotland’s oldest motorsport venue and will roar into life, as legendary racing machines from across the ages, fiercely compete across two full days of 31st August and 1st September, to be the fastest up the challenging Bo’ness Revival Hillclimb track. At the same time, Knockhill will be hosting the fifth round of the Scottish Motor Racing Club’s championships on Sunday 1st September at the Fife venue, just 15 miles north of the Queensferry Crossing.
Stuart Gray, Knockhill Director of Events said, “When the calendars were finalised, it was realised that the two sporting events are happening on the same weekend, however, with the very close proximity of our venues, motorsport fans can enjoy both over the weekend, or even both on the one day! Fans could enjoy Bo’Ness on the Saturday and then Knockhill on the Sunday, or if Sunday is their only day for enjoying motorsport, then enjoy a packed morning of action at the historic hillclimb venue, then about 40 minutes later, be enjoying an afternoon of action at Knockhill. We think it’s a first that two venues are working together in this way.”
The special two venue tickets are now available via www.knockhill.com up to Sunday 25th August and will be mailed out from Knockhill and will cost £15 for adults. The cost of admission to Bo’Ness is £10 plus an optional £5 for parking, Knockhill is £15 (with free parking), so fans are genuinely getting two events for the price of one.
For those of you who will be travelling a long way to this year’s Revival, we’re happy to announce that the Macdonald Inchyra Grange Hotel and Spa is offering a 15% discount to guests staying there that weekend (August 31/September 1, in case you’ve forgotten). The hotel is just three miles from the competitors’ entrance to the hill, and you only have to negotiate two roundabouts to get from one to the other.

Due to the increasing costs of the Bo’ness Revival, we the committee find ourselves at a cross road, we have for the past few years been unable to secure additional sponsorship for the event, coupled with some rainy days our costs have exceed the revenue from the event, and we have drained most of our reserves. We will be looking at ways to increase the revenue and reduce our costs for this year. If you would like to donate additional money with your membership to help secure the future of the event in the years to come, please select this option before checkout. Thank you

With planning now well underway for the 2019 Bo’ness Revival the first major decision for the Classic side of the event has been confirmed. Following a meeting with the Jim Clark Trust he 2019 Revival Classic Road Tour, to be named the ‘Jim Clark Road Tour’ shall depart from the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway Station in the town centre and head for the newly refurbished Jim Clark museum in Duns. Over the next few months Alisdaire Lockhart shall be hard at work plotting an interesting route through some of Scotland’s finest scenery, he has quite a task in hand to equal or better his route for the 2018 Road Tour, which was universally acclaimed by all who took part. Also under planning is the Bo’ness Saltire Trophy, a competitive MSA sanctioned Historic Rally / Production Car Autotest event, organised by Graham Couser and the Saltire Rally Club. There are a number of logistical problems to overcome but the plan is for the BST to also head for Duns and hopefully take in a number of Jim Clark related venues en route.
For the Hillclimb side of the event the provisional entry list for the Jim Clark Class has a possible fourteen entries already, which currently includes, amongst others, a Porsche 356, Lotus Elans, Lotus 23s, Jaguar D-Types, Triumph TR3s a Goggomobil and DKW. The class is open to the types of cars driven by Jim Clark during his career so the thought of a Ford Galaxie or Lotus Cortinas tackling the tricky Bo’ness course is a mouth-watering thought for any motor sport or classic car enthusiast. Below is the full list of eligible cars.
For any information or to register interest in the Bo’ness Revival Hillclimb or Bo’ness Revival Classic, Scotland’s only combined Historic Motor Sport and Classic Car event, please contact cliff@bonessrevival.co.uk
Now that the dust has just about settled from the 2018 Revival planning for 2019 has already commenced. The main feature for 2019 shall be tribute to the great Jim Clark who competed only once at Bo’ness in 1959. At that meeting he entered three cars, a Porsche 356, a Lotus Elite in which he had competed in at the Le Mans 24-hour race only weeks previously and the Border Reivers Lister-Jaguar in which he set the fastest time of the day. To celebrate the occasion the search is on for as many of the types of cars which he drove during his career, ranging from Goggomobils to Sunbeam Talbots and all types of Lotus cars from Elans and Cortinas to single seaters. The plan is to have a specific Jim Clark class in the Revival Hillclimb and static displays in the Revival Classic Showfield. The Saturday Revival Classic Road Tour shall also follow the Jim Clark theme with three possible Jim Clark related destinations currently under consideration.
All of this is in addition to the usual Revival format of the Revival Hillclimb on Saturday and Sunday and the Revival Classic Show on the Sunday.
For more information, or if you would like to register and eligible car for the Jim Clark tribute please contact Cliff McKinnon at cliff@bonessrevival.co.uk

The Hil Climb:
See, hear and smell Scotland’s oldest motorsport venue roar into life, as legendary racing machines from across the ages, fiercely compete across two full days, to be the fastest up the challenging Bo’ness Revival Hillclimb. Bo’ness saw Scottish motor racing heroes like Jim Clark and Sir Jackie Stewart rise to fame on the tarmac at Scotland’s first true motor racing venue. Every year at the Bo’ness Revival, we celebrate over 80 years of hard fought racing at the venue, with a selection of competing cars from the early 1900s right the way through to the late 1980s. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is some kind of classic car parade though, these guys mean business and you can watch them battle it out against the clock across two days of exciting, flat out racing action guaranteed to get your pulse racing!
Competitors travelling from across the UK, face a challenging tight and twisty course, which always delivers plenty of fast, sideways action. The cars are split into 16 different classes according to age, power and engine size and race across two days. You get access to the paddock areas so you can get up close to these racing monsters and chat to the drivers, whilst steam trains pass above you on the Kinneil Railway! Out on the track, you are as close to the action as possible at every corner. Don’t miss out on the most exciting place to be on the first weekend in September, book your tickets online now!
We are very pleased to announce that we have a minibus shuttle service running from Linlithgow railway station. This means you can attend the event entirely by public transport from anywhere in the UK by getting a train to Linlithgow and then the shuttle bus to and from the venue. There will be two buses running at approximate 30 minute intervals between the station and Kinneil Estate and then back again. The first bus will leave at 09.30 and the last will leave at 16.30 hrs on both Saturday and Sunday. There is no charge to use the bus – it is a free service. Anyone can use the buses, and if you can find parking in Linlithgow then please feel free to use the shuttle bus service to Kinneil Estate and back.
As you can imagine, setting up an event like the Bo’ness hill climb takes a lot of time and resources. The Thursday and Friday just before the event are crazy busy, getting signs in place, setting up the paddock and erecting the commentators huts [yep we have to do that as well] there is a fair amount of setting up Gazebos and fences as well. If you are free on either of these days and would like to offer your time, then please drop me an e-mail and I can add you to the list of able bodies. alex@bonessrevival.co.uk
The paddock will be open from 12pm on Friday for you early birds that want to drop off your cars without pressure of time restrictions. Security will be patrolling the paddock and site to keep an eye on things from Friday onwards. It really helps the event run smoothly if we can get as many cars on site before the rush on Saturday morning.
For the ones that cannot make Friday then please have your car in place by 8am so the paddock is clear of trailers and excess traffic. Where possible support vehicles can be parked near your race car for those emergency repairs over the weekend.

What a event it will be, with a 20% increase in entrants we have not just managed for the fourth consecutive time to hit the 100 Mark but smash it. The final entry list contains 123 drivers and 114 cars. ranging from pre war to the tail end of 83. We are already hard at work getting the track in shape for the coming racing, so If you have not done so already check out the final entry list, and paddock layout in the downloads.
Please check back before the event for any last minute changes to the paddock layout.
We have reached the magic number of entries and we are now officially full. Entries will stay open until the event but from this point on, any new entries will be added to a reserve list and will not be guaranteed a place in the event . We tend to have a drop out of around 5% so all is not lost if you have not entered.
if you would like to discuss entering and want to know where you are in the reserve list feel free to contact me on alex@bonessrevival.co.uk
Bo’ness Revival are sad to announce that Kenneth Laidlaw has passed away. Kenneth was a great friend of BHCR and had been an Honorary Member almost from the very inception of the Club. He was always a great help and source of experienced advice during the early years of the Revival – keeping us on the correct path with regards to MSA matters. He assisted the Bo’ness Committee for a lengthy period and also acted as the MSA Steward at our 2016 hill climb meeting.
Kenneth was a highly respected MSA official and acted in this capacity all over the UK. He was always smiling and always good company even when his health was failing him in recent years. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with him.
The exciting news for competitors joining us for this year’s edition of the Bo’ness Revival Hill Climb to be held over 1st – 2nd September 2018, is that applications for class entries are now open.
There are a few minor changes to the classes this year and a few have been combined for even more thrilling action for the thousands of enthusiastic spectators.

Opinions vary as to the definition of a Classic Car, our definition is interpreted as generally any car produced over 20-years ago, together with modern sports cars.
It has become a tradition that members meet up at New Year at Kinneil and this will be our tenth Meet and Greet so please come along.
Nothing much is planned other than a chance to meet friends old and new for a blether. There will be the opportunity to walk the Hill and also to hear how plans are progressing for 2018. Also we plan to walk the line of the proposed return road if weather is permitting.
Please enter via the lower entrance under the railway – the competitors entrance for the Hill Climb. We will meet up in the paddock area at 13.00 hrs. 2nd Jan 2018
We are now accepting memberships for 2018. The membership fee is £30 for 2018. Forms can be downloaded for members renewing and for enthusiasts who would like to join BHCR. Renewal forms have been sent out to all members but you can download the attached form now to renew your membership or join the club.

The club’s committed policy of improving the Revival Meeting from one year to the next means that we require more funds to carry out the improvements necessary. Our focus for 2018 will be to extend the paddock parking areas and look at ways of improving the overall layout of the venue to make access for spectators easier. All this eats into our Club’s funds, so more than ever your Membership Fee is very important to the club and any additional contributions will be most welcome.”

The Bo’ness classic is now full, this is great news for our spectators on the Sunday as we have a huge and diverse collection of classic cars on show in the Classic arena.
Well that did not take very long, entries to the 2017 Bo’ness hill Climb are now Full. In fact we have stretched out the entries and squeezed a few more in due to the overwhelming interest.
However due to the nature of Classic cars breaking down from time to time, we are accepting names to be put on a reserve list in case anyone pulls out. Names like the entries will be held in the order they are received. So if you missed getting your entry in, please contact Alex Hazlewood for more information about the reserve list and how it work: alex@bonesshillclimb.org.uk
Alan Biggar successfully completed his marathon mile trip round the coast of Scotland and finished with a gentle run up the Hill at Bo’ness and a photo session in front of Kinneil House. Alan gave us this report on his 1800 mile drive in his 1957 Morgan .
We had a great send off from the Stirling and District Classic Car Club annual show at Bridge of Allan and smooth run to Macduff. Day 2 started with the front nearside side light trying to fall off followed by a puncture on leaving Elgin. Front offside tyre destroyed, quick change and only 10 minutes late arriving at Dingwall Academy. Impossible to get a replacement spare tyre the correct size, so had to opt for a smaller tyre and tube. Fortunately no further punctures, if there had been matching tyres would have to have been fitted on the rear as Morgan has an LSD.
Ferries to Orkney and Shetland went smoothly, Alan had to arrange an emergency dental appointment in Lerwick! Then back to the mainland and long drive from Scrabster to Portree on Skye. While on Skye it became clear that the Kenlowe fan was not working correctly, so Simon Scott wired it so it was permanently on for the rest of the Drive, which was exactly another week.
A good journey down the Outer Hebrides in the rain, safe return to Oban and car running well on Islay and Jura, again wet on Jura. Looped round Kintyre Peninsula but no run up the Rest and Be Thankful Hillclimb courtesy of torrential rain! All well through Glasgow but car breaks down 20 miles short of Stranraer, fortunately sun shining and managed to coast to a halt in a lay-by on the other side of road. Hugh Brown and Brett, a domestic appliance electrical engineer sitting in his van, use an old bit of cable to connect the coil to the battery by the rear axle and car makes it to Hotel an hour late, Hugh turning the engine off from the passenger seat with a switch in the makeshift cable! Next morning electrical engineers in Stranraer find a spade connector has slipped off the rear of the battery isolation switch, all well again.
Afternoon of the second last day and engine will not start after refuelling at Hawick, push start required. Final morning in Eyemouth another push start, again at Duns, at Kinglass Fields in Bo’ness, at the Bo’ness Revival Hillclimb and finally at the Inchyra Hotel. Despite all this the Drive ends on schedule, total driven miles being 1,812 taking the distance covered by the 4 Drives (2008, 2011, 2013 and 2017) to 10,412 open top Morgan miles for Teenage Cancer Trust. Oh yes, and one secret bit of information, the average age of the Drive Scotland team in 2017 was 65.2!
A huge thank you to all the sponsors/donors/supporters/helpers, the fund remains open for donations.
