Campbell Deas 2016

All I can say is that this was a fantastic event . A new course, that improved the event layout for everyone. Big thank you to Peoples Ford for the course car. The new Ford Focus RS is a step change over the old model and is one of the most surefooted car I have driven. It is exceptional value for money! Thanks also got to the marshals who kept the event running and dealing with the odd off with professionalism. Allan and Steve on the Manitou’s who could place the massive bales with speed and accuracy. To the organising committee thanks for a great overall event, and due to the success of the event we have new “opportunities ” to solve. Kenny Baird, how did you manage to keep going all weekend? Finally, to my fellow clerks, James Stronach and Walter Robertson, thanks for your help and support over weekend. Not wanting to wish my life away, but I can’t wait to September 17 when we can all get together again

Hope you’re having an easier time today.

Just a quick line to say what a great day it was Bo’ness yesterday – the kids and Kathryn had a great time. Bo’ness just gets better every year and I know this down to a lot of hard work by yourself and the team, so I just wanted to say thank you.

Thanks very much for the invitation to Bo’ness – it was terrific event, great atmosphere and you even organised the weather! It really has evolved into a top class weekend & I heard nothing but complimentary remarks with everyone enjoying themselves. I know the huge amount of work that goes into setting up and then clearing up an event like that so thanks to you and your team for such efficient organisation – hope you can have a well earned rest for a while, you must have walked a few miles over the weekend!
All the best,

just a quick word of thanks for a very enjoyable event. I hope everyone enjoyed the racket my old quattro made! I can tell you the hairpin and courtyard were hard work but fun.
Please pass on my thanks to all volunteers, marshall and officials. I’ll be Club Steward at Kames next month so I know what it’s like!
Hope you’ll have me back next year.
Best wishes

A big thank you to all involved in organising the Bo’ness Hill Climb Revival. We really enjoyed our first time competing at Bo’ness despite breaking the wee Hillman Imp on both days!

On Saturday Jim Grant was a star, finding a spare rotoflex coupling bolt from a box in his loft and delivering it to us in the rain that evening so we could fix the one that had sheared off – thank you so much, Jim – and thankyou to those who picked it up and identified that it may be ours… On Sunday, having pushed the car hard in first practice, sadly the nasty clattering on the way down the hill did prove to be a broken crank (confirmed now the engine is out). However for the rest of the day we enjoyed just being at the event, seeing all the interesting cars both at the bottom and top of the hill, and the company of the wonderful Scottish hill climbing community.

We were impressed with how smoothly it ran, particularly the paddock and other marshals’ excellent organisation getting all the cars out in the right order!

We plan to be back in 2017, especially as we have unfinished business…

Keith & Carol Thomas, 2016
Would you please convey our thanks to Falkirk Council, local press, members and officials at BHCR and all the other people who made the weekend such a fabulous one for all of us.
Each year the event has been better than the year before, it’s now impossible one would think to improve on this weekends event but if there is any way you guys will find it.
What a great partnership has developed over the years between Falkirk Council, BHCR and other organisations such as the cadets, scouts and the many businesses. It shows what can be done when everyone pulls together to develop something that benefits the area so greatly economically yet provides healthy family fun for people of all ages.
Having competed at Boness every year since it started I have seen the venue improve and develop over the years, it is now a fabulous asset to the community and hopefully will continue to be so for many years to come.
Thanks to everyone who has been involved particularly the residents, hotels, restaurants and businesses of the Boness area who make us feel so welcome.
See you again next year.

It was a fantastic event – very busy, we raised almost £300 for our charity, and met lots of interesting people.
Lots to see and do as well (although I didn’t get around most of it, being busy on our stand). The Revival event is going from strength to strength, so thank to you and all the other members of the club for your efforts. And thank you all also for our second prize in the “Club Stand” competition – I think next year we may have to step up the teddy bears’ picnic to include bacon rolls and hot pies for when the judges come around!

Kind regards
Andrew Carrie 2015

Well done and thank you! Dear Kenny and Cliff, I just wanted to thank you both and indeed the committee for pulling together such a wonderful event at the weekend. It has been great to see the Hill Climb grow and flourish in recent years and this year’s changes made a huge difference to the smooth running and enjoyment of the event. I am sure you are aware but The Scotsman labelled it as “The Goodwood of Scotland” and as it continues to grow I can now see why. It is disappointing that there is not more support from businesses in the local area as the event brings much to the town and I would hope that as people see this it will further enhance the work you are doing as more people invest in it. I realise that much of the work is unseen but would be grateful if you could pass on my appreciation to all who were involved. The Heritage Weekend part was far better due to the layout and enabled the participants and spectators to make the most of the event. Keep up the good work and if I can help in any way in the future please do let me know.

With Kindest Regards
Paul Cuthell 2016

Nice to meet you at the weekend, thoroughly enjoyed both days – how did you manage to arrange the weather??

Having spent a fair bit of time in the paddock talking to various competitors I’m now seriously thinking of getting stuck into my MGB project, it’s been untouched for 2 years, with a view to maybe using it for hill climbing. You never know I might have it on the go for next year.

Thanks for all your efforts, I know only too well how much goes into organising these events.

Kind regards

Just to say how much we all enjoyed the hillclimb and the classic show. I know how much work goes into such a big event and the many times things need to be adapted to suit late comers. We all enjoyed the 2 days and will definitely want to return next year. If so can we get the same pitch as it was a great vantage spot both to see the cars finish and to meet the crowd of spectators.

Many thanks again for the invitation
Best regards

On behalf of the Centre may I thank you for a most enjoyable weekend.

All our guys enjoyed it… Can’t be bad!

The event goes from strength to strength, well done!

Cliff, may I suggest that you consider expanding the range of concours awards next year to give more cars a chance… And its a bit difficult to bring cars into the ring early on when they have been set up for the stand or concours judging.

Hopefully next year we can organise a team to take part in the driving tests!

Thanks again.

I really just had to write straight away, and tell you what a wonderful weekend I had .
It was my first time on a hill climb apart from a Days training a few weeks ago at Harewood..
I must say I was really nervous this morning.

But every one was very .. Very supportive and complementary on the Wsm and made me feel so at ease and welcome and helped me with the format …It was brilliant.

Although I had not been to a hill climb, I have been to car events ,Bo’ness was very well organised on all fronts and all the marshals and members that give their time voluntary have my greatest respect ..

Please pass on my complements to them.
Once again thank you and your team for a wonderful weekend

Having had a wonderful day at the Revival yesterday I just wanted to send a personal note of thanks to the organising committee.
I attended almost by accident last year with my two young sons – I was scratching around for something to do whilst my wife was away for the day on training and saw it mentioned in the Scotsman I think. The Saturday was sunny and the boys really enjoyed it.
This year we chose the Sunday and I was a little apprehensive that they may not enjoy it so much – but they did and we all had a fine time. It was great to see them so excited and to relive many days spent watching VSCC events with my own father, who now again joins in at the odd event at Brooklands in his 1934 Morgan Super Sports.
I know from my own work what a huge amount of effort you must all put in – and that you probably don’t get a huge amount of direct thanks.
So, thanks again and here’s to next year.

May I thank you for such a warm welcome at Bo’ness when we arrived on Friday afternoon, it was the start of a great week end of motor sport & craic with a bunch of very enthusiastic people.
Please pass on our thanks to your organising committee. I did try to slow down & shout thanks to the Marshals at the various posts on my last run down the hill; however I’m not sure they could hear me with everything that was going on.
God willing I will definitely be back next year for your 80th anniversary & hopefully bring my young sister in the A35. Thanks again for a great weekend of motor sport.

Thank you all for a great weekend at Bo’ness, we much enjoyed our trip up to Scotland.

We look forward to coming again next year and I will sponsor a class again in 2014.

As a first time competitor at any hill climb event (in anger, I have driven up Prescott with the JDC on a track event), I would like to thanks everyone at Bo’ness Hill Climb for making me welcome, and putting on a wonderful event that both my wife and I enjoyed greatly.
The competence and organisation was faultless, and the officials and marshals did a great job. My thanks also go to Geoff Mansfield and Cliff McKinnon (who were instrumental in persuading me to take part) had a great time, and for me it was worth the ghastly drive up in the rain on the Friday from York.
As a first-timer I was well pleased to be only 0.45 seconds behind Cliff on the Saturday (in a bog standard car with SU’s) and .04 behind Geoff as well! Sunday was different with me slipping behind the lads as they found their pace but it was tremendous fun and thank you all once again.

One of the most heart-warming things to have happened during the Vauxhall Astra VXR Hillclimb Challenge season was an invitation to take part in the sixth annual Bo’ness Revival meeting. And I’m so glad we were, because this was an experience I would not have wanted to miss.
I didn’t know what to expect before my first demo run, but by the time I reached the holding paddock at the top of the hill I was bouncing around with excitement and telling everyone who would listen (though they knew already) that Bo’ness as it stands today is a cracking little venue, and one I’d be delighted to revisit in the future.
But there were many other cars to enjoy looking at, and the people were lovely, and the organisation efficient but relaxed. Altogether, this was one of my all-time favourite motorsport experiences. ..find a way of getting along there next year and becoming part of the large crowd that enjoys the goings-on and adds to the already wonderful atmosphere of this superb event.

I thought it was again a very successful and well run event, the printed programme has improved tremendously – very professional.
The grandstand again proved very popular, though if people stand by the fence you cannot see on the first four rows – a difficult problem with so many spectators.
We both remarked on the quality of both the mugs and pens purchased, good design and value.
Many thanks again.
Roger Grundy – Anstruther

I would just like to thank you and your team for putting on another great event this year. The guys on the stand had a great time and to pick up the prize for 3rd best club stand to say the least was a pleasant surprise considering the good turnout of vehicles that were there. And the fly past this year was awesome, I still get a buzz every time I hear those Merlin engines. Looking forward to next year already.

On behalf of the Sporting Bears Motor Club, I would like to pass on our appreciation to you and the rest of the organisers, for yesterday’s event. We all really enjoyed the day. The good weather helped, but it was nice to attend more than just “a car show”. Two of our members were also able to join in the Cavalcade during the lunch break, and really enjoyed that.
We raised just over £250 from donations and the rehoming of bears, which will go to the Scottish Association for Children with Heart Disorders.
Thank you for a great day out, and for giving us the opportunity to help a worthwhile cause.

Honorary Membership is something I will treasure.  I don’t deserve it, but accept it with gratitude, and will come back to Bo’ness with pleasure next year to watch the fascinating machinery.  I thought Simon Taylor’s device was remarkable, and quick despite the use of a single gear.
Thank goodness the rain held off until the end of prize-giving, although the tidying up must have been miserable.

We were busy almost continuously for both days. As last year, we really enjoyed the event but this year even the weather was kind to us. I hope you liked the display and of course the sound of a Potts Manx coming up the hill. Apart from mother’s running up to put their hands over their children’s ears, it all went very well and the crowd seemed to warm to it all.
Once again, thank you for everything and best wishes for the future.

Since my return from Scotland things have been frantically busy in the run-up to the Goodwood Revival, which was four days of wall-to-wall commentary and presentation work, and my little Sassenach bum has barely touched the ground. That’s my feeble excuse for only now dropping you a line to thank you for another wonderful Bo’ness.
Each year it seems to get better, and this year’s event, helped by mainly dry weather, was for me just glorious from beginning to end. The organisation of the whole event proved to be that perfect, and now rarely achieved, mix: efficient and smooth, and yet unobtrusive and unbureaucratic. I have some idea of just how much work it must have been for you guys, over a long period, and I know event organisers often feel that everybody is having a lovely time without realising how much work has gone on behind the scenes to give them that lovely time.
It was a privilege to drive the Chapman Mercury, which turned out to be a much more redoubtable machine than I expected: these flat-heads do seem to have a charm all their own.
Many thanks to your team for a really super and highly enjoyable event – classic hill climbing as it should be. Congratulations and well done.
Best wishes and thanks.

Just thought I would drop you a very quick email to say thank you for a great weekend. We were made to feel very welcome and I am genuinely shocked as to how much interest people had in the car even though it isn’t finished yet. Everyone was really great and being next to the Ecosse truck and R4D was awesome!! My little car was in such esteemed company.
There was some good racing and a good turnout which was great as well. Hopefully this event will continue to grow every year
Anyway many thanks and I hope to see you next year but at the bottom of the hill giving Douglas some competition.
Alan Croft – Kingston upon Hull

I thought the whole weekend quite magical and no accolade for the Committee would be high enough. The atmosphere in the paddock was exactly as we all wish for and I know that I am not alone in feeling that, as many of the competitors made a point of expressing that same opinion. Efficient but not officious, serious minded towards the sport but conducted in a spirit of fun and bonhomie. The display runs exceeded all expectations and gave the meeting a particular character.
Roll on 2013!
Gavin Ross – Alford

Just a note of thanks for making a Southerner extremely welcome, and how much we enjoyed ourselves. The Tojeiro seems to be on a rather long learning curve and we spent most of the weekend ironing out the new foibles; by the last run we were starting to go in the right direction.
Many thanks again for weekend.

I started off at Kinneil House where there seemed to be a real ‘buzz’ to things with the two Ecosse cars warming up and then doing demonstration runs, and it was a delight for me to be re-united with R4D for the first time since 1953. I then walked down to the paddock via the pathway through the trees which was in good shape, being dry and firm underfoot. In the paddock there was a similar ‘buzz’, and it was good to see the cars, hear the noise, and chat to friends. All in all a cracking event and well done everyone.
Douglas Thomson – Edinburgh

Just a short line to thank you all for a most enjoyable weekend at Bo’ness last Saturday and Sunday. Everyone was most kind and friendly.

I also hope that the event will run again in 2013. I spoke to a number of drivers and spectators who really enjoyed the event.
